How to Restore Your Round Rock Lawn

Is your Round Rock lawn looking dry and brown after prolonged heat and lack of moisture during the previous season? The amount of time that it takes to breathe life back into your yard will depend upon how severely it is damaged and what types of grasses you want to re-establish. If you are noticing severe dead spots every spring in your Round Rock lawn, it might be a good idea to restore the area by tearing up the entire existing sod and reseeding a hardier variety of grass.

First, you'll need to know what type of grass is already in your lawn, Reseeding with the wrong type of grass will look funny, and worse yet, may be a waste of money. Seeding grasses that are not cold tolerant in frigid areas will not only fail to fix the problem but may even exacerbate it if these grasses strangle out existing turf. In addition, grasses grow and need maintenance at different rates. Whereas fescue needs almost no mowing in the hottest months because of an extended dormant period, zoysia thrives during the hottest weather because it is a warm-season grass. If you don't know what types of grass are growing in your lawn, ask a lawn care professional. They should be able to point you in the right direction and give you some helpful tips for lawn renovation.

Knowing the cause of spots in your lawn can help you avoid having them in the future. Many grasses cannot stand the extremes of temperature that come with a hot summer, so it pays to select grasses that are naturally heat-tolerant if you live in an area with a typically warm climate. Even moisture is another problem that plagues turf grasses. If there are existing wet spots in your yard due to elevation, you can either plan to add dirt to raise the elevation of the area or place a statue or other focal point there. Grass does not like "wet feet" water sitting in your yard will smother any variety of grass that you plant there, unless you choose to plant a type of marsh grass.

Obviously, if you believe your grass is dying out due to overly dry conditions, plan to give it a thorough soaking once a week if provisions are available to do so. Always focus on buying seed that is meant to help deal with the challenges in your area. Selecting for traits like heat and drought tolerance can save you a lot of frustration in the long run.
